%X The National Institute for Space Research - INPE through the TOPODATA initiative, has generated a significant amount of local variables derived from SRTM data for Brazil. To fill an existing cartographic void, the state of Amapá in partnership with the Armed Forces Geographical Service has generated a large volume of information using an airborne SAR interferometric sensor system. Both institutions provide a Digital Terrain Model (DTM), which, among other uses, enables further study of the topographic and hydrographic dynamics of the state. The aim of this study was to evaluate the DTM altimetry data generated from the Amapá Continuous Cartographic Base project (BCDAC) using hyposometric curves generated from these data and compare with the hyposometric curves generated from the TOPODATA SRTM. The focus of the study area is the urban area of Macapá. The results show the classification for the SRTM data in 1: 10,000 scale and class A for BCDAC data to the scale 1: 5,000. The BCDAC results were more precise at the studied scales compared with results from the SRTM data. The newly obtained BCDAC results show increased environmental fragility of the low lying and more densely populated regions to the south of Macapá.
